Assateague Island, Chincoteague, VA (1867)

Assateague is located just south of the Maryland / Virginia border in the Chincoteague wildlife refuse. Its surroundings are beautiful and well worth the trip. This lighthouse shares the neighborhood with assorted wildlife including wild horses.

This tower was light in October of 1867 and serves to warn mariners of the dangerous shoals that extend from the shores of Virginia and Maryland.
