Brodie Island,
Oregon Inlet, NC(1872)
This is the third
lighthouse built at this site just north of Oregon Inlet, the first falling
into disrepair due to poor construction and the second being destroyed
by the Confederate army during the Civil War. The tall, slim tower bears
day markings of broad alternate black and white circular bands. The old
keepers quarters has been converted into a visitors center and natural
history museum, and is part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore.
